This location wasn't part of our original plans or something we were particularly excited about. We initially intended to go somewhere else for Labor Day weekend, but it turned out to be too complicated. However, the more vlogs I watched about Copenhagen, the more excited I became.

Let me tell you, Copenhagen did not disappoint. It is fantastic, and we highly recommend it. I would also highly recommend checking out the YouTube channel Destination Well Known. He's Danish and is from Copenhagen. Lots of great videos and tips.

It kind of gave me London vibes but less big city, if that makes sense. We would absolutely go back but stick to the warmer months or christmas time.

I didnt take a whole lot of pictures on this trip. We of course just did a ton of walking around the city, went to several playgrounds and ate a lot of food. The city is very walkable, kid friendly and clean.

Transportation

I strongly suggest obtaining a Copenhagen transport pass, available at numerous kiosks. These passes can be purchased for durations ranging from 24 to 72 hours or more. I picked one up at the airport upon arrival, and the metro ride to the city took only about 15 minutes.

One of the best and easiest public transport places we went to. It covers all transportation—bus, train, and even some boats—within the main central zones of Copenhagen. Hop on and hop off anywhere you want. AND there were always elevators so you don't have to worry with a stroller.

Where we Stayed

We stayed in Christianhaven, a historic area located just across the river from many of Copenhagen's main attractions. Honestly, as long as you're in Copenhagen, you can't really go wrong. With a travel pass, you can take the metro and get anywhere very quickly.

What We Did

As usual we just walked around the city, like covered so much ground espeically with the transportation passes.

The first thing I would suggest is the round tower. A common challenge with small children is that city viewpoints often require navigating many stairs and tight spaces. However, the round tower features a single, long spiraling ramp, and it offers a fantastic view of the city from the top. Landon really enjoyed it.

Another suggestion I have is to visit Frederiksberg Park. It's an expansive park featuring play areas, attractions to explore, and most notably, a free viewpoint overlooking the zoo's elephant exhibit.

Close to the round tower is the University Library. We only took a quick look inside as there is an admission fee, but it appeared truly impressive. It had a storybook-like charm and seemed perfect for Instagram-worthy library photos. If you're a book enthusiast, I highly recommend visiting.

Food

I think one of the biggest standout things about Copenhagen is the food. And im not talking about strictly danish food. While they have some good stuff like good seafood, and you have to get as much smorrebrod as you can.

It's the range of international cuisine, the variety of foods, and the presence of food markets. There is some excellent Thai food available here. We love Thai food and have tried it in at least half of the countries we've visited, and Copenhagen offers some of the best.

As far as food markets and areas go, the first one we went to was the meat packing district. It can seem a bit hidden but lots of food around here and we opted for the BBQ place cuz duh. Meat and beer and outdoor seating. Warpigs Brewpub

Another one we went to for some really good Smorrebrod and other food and such is Torvehallerne KBH.

Ultimately, the largest and most impressive spot you should visit is Reffen Street Food. It primarily features an outdoor setting with numerous food stalls offering a variety of international cuisines, a spacious bar area, and plenty of outdoor seating and games. This is a place I'd love to come back to multiple times because of the amount of food and the scene.

There's one more we walked by but didn't go to; however, it is highly recommended because it's just across the bridge from the famous Nyhavn (the colored buildings by the water). Broens Street Food.

And of course since where we live in spain we dont get food delivery, we had no shortage of delivery and take away food because there were so many options.

Day Trips

We did two day trips but there are plenty more.

Our first was to Malmo, Sweden. This was a easy way to mark off another country visited off of our list if a day trip counts. (Dont worry we plan on coming back during christmas for a proper visit).

Malmo was cool, easy to walk around, a nice historic downtown and some food markets. it was an hour or just under an hour train ride from Copenhagen. Its not included with the Copenhagen travel pass so just get those tickets separately.

The following day, we took a trip north to Helsingor, a fascinating port city featuring a castle by the water. As we continued exploring, we discovered a dockside area with an impressive playground and a free, large bounce house platform. Adjacent to these attractions was a seafood restaurant offering takeout, where we enjoyed some of the finest seafood we had anywhere.

There is another main food hall right by this pier and the castle that is in a very large old warehouse. Each food stall offers a different type of cuisine, and the seating looks like an old reject second-hand furniture store. Very hipster. But there are plenty of good food and drink options, plus it's indoors for that Danish weather.

More to do

There are plenty of activities to enjoy both in Copenhagen and its surroundings. One thing I considered but didn't get around to was renting bikes. Cycling is extremely popular here, to the point where it might feel overwhelming due to the bike rush hour in the lanes. However, during midday, there are numerous bike paths and areas outside the bustling city that I believe would be fantastic to explore.

Denmark also has a Lego Land, a lego themed resturant and some other adventure stuff in that area. Of course other towns and castles and such all over.

This could count as a day trip, but it's not very far outside of the city. And that is the Experimentarium. If we went back, this would be at the top of our list because I think Landon would love it, and even we would find a lot of things pretty cool.

Top Tips

  • Get a transportation pass for the duriation of your stay.

  • Checkout Destination Well Known, and other YouTubers who visit there.

  • Do some day trips. They are easy.

  • Try as much food as possible.

  • Pack clothes for rain. It somehow didnt rain when we were there but we were prepared.
